CONCORD, N.H. – John Stephen, Executive Councilor-Elect, today applauded the full repeal of New Hampshire’s interest and dividends tax, which takes effect tomorrow at midnight. This historic milestone will enable taxpayers to retain more of their hard-earned money and marks a crucial step toward ensuring our state remains a national leader in economic freedom and opportunity.
“I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to our elected officials for their hard work and dedication in making this tax repeal a reality,” said Stephen. “Their commitment to low taxes and limited government has brought us to this moment where families and businesses alike stand to benefit from New Hampshire’s pro-growth policies.”
As the interest and dividends tax finally phases out, Stephen underscored the importance of maintaining fiscal discipline.
“Now, more than ever, we need to keep our state spending in check,” he stated. “New Hampshire has long been admired for its lean and responsive government, and preserving our reputation demands vigilance. We can live within our means without asking more from our constituents to not only preserve, but grow the New Hampshire Advantage.”
Stephen also extended his gratitude to Americans for Prosperity for their instrumental advocacy. “AFP’s leadership and grassroots engagement were crucial in getting this policy across the finish line,” he noted. “I appreciate their unwavering focus on reducing the tax burden for individuals and entrepreneurs, and their continued drive to help keep our state a prime destination for job creators and workers.”
Looking ahead to his upcoming term, Stephen expressed enthusiasm for continuing to champion the “New Hampshire Advantage.” “I look forward to serving on the Executive Council and furthering policies that ensure our state remains a beacon of economic freedom, low taxes, and responsible spending,” said Stephen. “By working together—elected officials, community leaders, and advocates—we will keep New Hampshire a leader in opportunity and prosperity for generations to come.”
